Aquamarine Fukushima (アクアマリンふくしま, Akuamarin Fukushima), officially the Marine Science Museum, Fukushima Prefecture (ふくしま海洋科学館, Fukushima Kaiyō Kagakukan), is a public aquarium located in Iwaki, Fukushima, Japan.

Opened on July 15, 2000, it is the largest aquarium in the Tohoku region and serves as an educational center focused on environmental preservation. Aquamarine Fukushima is a member of the Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums (JAZA) and provides visitors with a comprehensive look at marine life and the challenges faced by ocean ecosystems.

How to Get There

  • By Train and Bus: From JR Joban Line Izumi Station (express train stop), take a local bus (towards Onahama/Ena) for about 15 minutes to the nearest bus stop, AEON Mall Iwaki Onahama. After getting off, it’s a 5-minute walk to the aquarium. If the bus doesn’t stop at AEON Mall Iwaki Onahama, get off at the “Branch Office Entrance” and walk for about 10 minutes to reach the aquarium.
  • By Express Bus: Aquamarine Fukushima is accessible from Tokyo Station and Sendai Station via express bus, with the journey taking about 3 hours to Iwaki Station. From there, take the train to Izumi Station and follow the bus instructions mentioned above.
  • By Car: The aquarium is about 20 minutes from Iwaki Yumoto IC on the Joban Expressway and about 30 minutes from Iwaki Nakohi IC on the same expressway. If traveling from Fukushima Airport, it takes approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes via National Route 49.
