Takoyaki たこ焼き is a popular Japanese food which came from the Kansai region of Japan. It is a ball-shaped wheat flour based snack with diced octopus pieces inside.

There are various toppings available that goes with Takoyaki. Most common toppings are bonito flakes, leek, powder seaweed, mayonnaise and takoyaki sauce. Other toppings include cheese, soy sauce, ponzu sauce, mentaiko (pollock/cod roe), plum, and the list goes on.
Each ball is about 5cm in size and often sold in 6, 12 or 18 pieces in a set. Depending on the store, they will provide wooden chopsticks or toothpick to eat.
Be careful when you are eating takoyaki as the inside can be extremely hot. Also after eating, make sure you look in the mirror as powder seaweed can easily get stuck between your teeth!
